One of my favorite things to do is go spelunking for music on Bandcamp. Browsing the “video game music” tag, I came across this charming little cover and decided to give it a listen. From the first piano chord, I was hooked. Each song is telling its own little story in the melody and structure, and I was enamored with every. single. one! I literally was that McMahon reaction meme 🤣. After hearing “Haunting Memories” and “Tropical Whispering (Night)” I was sold. Kevin Colombin wrote a beautiful soundtrack and his talent for melody and choice of instruments felt like the album was written for me! There’s something so magical about the combination of flute and xylophone together - it makes me feel like I’m back watching Sesame Street - that sense of innocence and wonder and safeness. I think I need to state that I haven’t played the game at all - the music stands 100% on its own merits, and to me, that’s reason enough to give it a listen. When I come back because I want to hear the melodies and not because of the memories surrounding a track, that’s when I know it’s good music and can be enjoyed by anyone. This truly is a remarkable album and one of the best discoveries I’ve found! I’m incredibly grateful to Kevin and the team at Cosmo Gatto for trusting in me to do the music justice, as it deserves it so much.
